Divemaster Rating
A certified Divemaster
is for those who are ready to step up and become a leader.
As a Divemaster you will be responsible for other divers,
and other divers will look up to you as their role model. Only the
serious diver should consider becoming a Divemaster.
Prerequisites: To become
a Divemaster you must be at least 18 years old, hold the Rescue
Diver certification or equivalant, have a minimum of 20 logged dives
to start the course, have at least 60 logged dives by the completion
of the course, submit a satisfactory medical exam form signed by
a licensed physician, and be a person of good moral character.
The Divemaster Course is divided into
three sections:
- Watermanship & Skill Assessment
- Diving Knowledge Delelopment
- Practical Application
During the Watermanship and Skills Assessment you will fine tune your diving
abilities, and learn the proper ways and techniques to demonstrate skills
to students. Swim and Float tests will also be conducted, and your
rescue skills will also be reviewed.
The Diving Knowledge & Development part of this course will be divided
into five lectures and eight written tests. The five Lectures will
cover Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Supervising Students, and the Recreational
Dive Planner. There will be a written exam following each one of these
lectures. The remaining three written exams are covered in the Divemaster
manual.
The last part of the course is the Practical Application where you will
work together with your instructor as an instructional assistant in the training
of Open Water Courses, both in the pool, and in the Open Water segments.
You will also work with students enrolled in a continuing education course. This
will develop your ability to be able to control student problems that can
occur.
