Assistant Instructor Rating
The Assistant Instructor (AI) program
provides Divemasters, and those certified to equivalent leadership
levels with other dive training organizations, with additional training
to become instructional assistants and dive educators. If you meet
the above criteria, this program will build upon your abilities
to organize and supervise dive activities, while concentrating on
developing teaching skills. Through independent study, classroom
sessions and practical application, AI candidates learn to construct
effective teaching presentations and conduct programs. To help you
through the program an array of learning tools such as the Assistant
Instructor Workbook.
Upon completion of the
AI program, you have the option of continuing with the second half
of an Instructor Development Course (IDC) to prepare to take the
Instructor Examination (IE) and become an Open Water Scuba Instructor
(OWSI).
To qualify for Assistant Instructor
training, you'll need to
1. Be certified as a Divemaster or
equivalent leadership level with another recreational diver training
organization.
2. Be at least 18 years old.
3. Be in good physical condition for diving and submit a satisfactory
medical exam form signed by a physician.
4. Have been a certified diver for at least six months and have
completed and logged at least 60 open water dives, including experience
in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.
The Assistant Instructor program consists
of:
1. Formal training in conducting programs
and experience programs.
2. Independent study assignments.
3. Practical application sessions.
4. Written final examination.
As a Assistant Instructor, you'll
be able to:
1. Act as an instructional assistant.
2. Assume some teaching responsibilities.
Upon successfully completing
the Assistant Instructor program, you receive a certification card
and wall certificate in recognition of this professional rating.
You'll also become a member of and receive benefits, including the
ability to purchase professional liability insurance (which may
be required to conduct some activities).

Course Fee: $595
All students enrolled in a course with Abyss-Scuba receive
