Directions to Homestead CraterThe Homestead Creator is a natural open-water scuba site located
in Midway, UT, about 8 hours from the Denver area by car. Directions: From the store, drive SOUTH on Wadsworth to C-470, then WEST on 470 to I-70. Take I-70 EAST. Then take I-76 to I-25. Go NORTH on I-25. Go past Ft. Collins and continue to Cheyanne, WY. In Cheyanne, take I-80 WEST. Proceed through Wyoming and continue into Utah on I-80. From I-80 you will exit at US-40/US289 and go SOUTH past the Jordanelle Reservoir. Just after descending from the dam, turn right towards Midway/Wasatch Mountain State Park. After a few miles you will arrive in Midway. Turn right at the stop sign. Follow the signs to the Homestead Resort.
Each diver is required to have a park pass, which can be purchased at the Homestead Creater. Passes are currently $20.00, and are good for only that day. Water temperature in the Crater is 96 degrees (F) year-round, making it a nice open-water dive site any month of the year. Local weather can be checked in advance by clicking on the link shown below. Depth is about 65 feet maximum, with training platforms located at about 16 and 22 feet. The depth makes it possible for us to do deep diver and Advanced Open Water training at this site. The clarity of the water and the warm temperature makes it a fun place for to dive. Exposure protection is not required in water of these temperatures. Students should plan to bring all required scuba gear (mask, fins, snorkel, weights, regulator, BCD, etc.) unless they have made specific arrangements with our shop to bring and provide certain pieces of equipment. The Homestead Crator has an on-site "dive shop" but don't expect them to be able to provide anything you might need -- they are there primarily to do air fills.
