Directions to Chatfield Reservoir
Chatfield reservoir is located southwest of Denver, just south
of I-470, and East of Wadsworth Ave., in the Chatfield State Park,
only minutes from our retail shop and instructional facility.
Directions: From the store, drive SOUTH on Wadsworth, pass
under I-470, and continue about 1 mile until you see the entrance
to the park on your left. Turn left at the light into the
park entrance. You will need to pay your entry fee at the
gatehouse ($4 per car) unless you have purchased a season pass
for that vehicle. After you pass the gatehouse, the road curves
right and makes a "T" with the main road that goes through the
park. Turn RIGHT, and continue SOUTH on this road to the southern
end of the park property. At this point, the road will make a turn
to the LEFT, heading EAST. Make the first RIGHT turn you
can make off of the main road onto the service road that provides
access to "The Pit". You will see the pond on your right...parking
spaces along the right side of the road, and the entry point at
the center of the sandy beach area.
There is another entry point for divers at the far south end of
the pond, and another larger parking lot there. However we typically
use the north entry point due to it providing an easier path for
divers to make their entries and exits.
The northern dive area also has a number of underwater features
-- a submerged boat and trailer, two toilets, a hot-water heater,
a fire hydrant, clothes dryer, milk crate, etc. These are
typically the highlights of our underwater "tours". The southern
entry point has few of these amenities, but often is used for rescue
diver training, or when the site is crowded.
